SWCC Protocols

Protocol Starting August 31, 2020

With the COVID-19 Pandemic and current public health orders, what was once normal is no longer.  As a result, a number of precautionary protocols and procedures are being implemented to provide safety to the participants and staff of Gateway Recreation Centre.

Please do not come to SWCC Richmond Site if you or anyone in your family:

  • are feeling sick, 

  • has travelled outside of Manitoba in the last 14 days, excluding travel to western Canada, the territories or Ontario west of Terrace Bay, on a flight or in a workplace cluster of COVID – 19 cases within the last 14 days

  • has come into contact with someone who is confirmed to have COVID – 19,

  • has been in contact with someone who has laboratory exposure while working directly with COVID – 19 specimens, and/or

  • has difficulty breathing or shortness of breath when at rest or lying down.

General Participant Protocol and Form

  • A maximum of 28 participants will be allowed on the ice at one time. Includes player & coaches.

  • For High School or Adult events, spectators will not be permitted on site. This will be adjusted when games are permitted to be played.

  • At this time, for youth hockey/Ringette participants are asked to limit the number of spectators (1 per family) coming to the facility for their ice time. These spectators will be directed to a designated area in the rink where they will have to remain while in the facility, except when utilizing the washrooms in dressing room wing. At no time will spectators be allowed in the dressing rooms. Access by spectators will be the responsibility of the team/organization who are to pre-screen and sign off on the form provided to them by our screeners when entering the facility. 

  • Participants will line up outside SWCC by the designated main entrance. Please follow posted signs and social distancing requirements.

  • Coaches and/or the Team Contact will be responsible to self-assess, assess and pre-screen all participants, including themselves, prior to entering the facility and submitting appropriate forms to the GRC monitor. 

    • The teams/user groups will receive a sign in form prior to each ice time, which will be handed in to the SWCC screeners upon arrival. The sign in form will include the date and time of the ice rental, the names of all participants, including coaches, as well as phone numbers, and E-mail addresses. 

    • The form must be signed by the Coach and/or the Team Contact. 

NOTE:  Anyone not listed on the form or anyone that answers “Yes” to any of the Screening questions is not permitted in the facility.

  • Participants will only be able to access to the facility 30 minutes prior to their ice time.  There is no early entry to the facility, as we need to sanitize dressing rooms, washrooms and the general facility.

  • Participants are encouraged to dress at home but will be permitted to dress at the facility. 

  • Participants and Coaches are required to use the hand sanitizer when they enter the facility and proceed immediately to their designated dressing rooms.

  • There will be a maximum of 12 participants allowed in dressing rooms and 2 dressing rooms will be assigned per group.  

  • Participants can use the washrooms located within their assigned dressing rooms one person at a time..

  • Showers will not be available until further notice.

  • Spectators will be able to use the washrooms in the dressing room wing only. Lobby washrooms are not available to the general public. 

  • Coaches will be responsible to direct the participants to vacate the facility within 20 minutes after their ice time (2 metres/6 feet apart). Exit from the SWCC Arena will occur at the northeast exit, adjacent to dressing rooms.

  • When exiting the facility please follow the exit signs with arrows and continue to social distance (2 metres/6 feet).

  • Participants and Coaches must use the hand sanitizer they provide when exiting the facility.

  • With the exception of your own filled water bottle there will be no outside food or beverages allowed in the facility. 

  • There will be no access to water fountains.

  • Equipment cannot be left in the dressing rooms after the ice time.

  • All social distancing protocols must be adhered to on and off the ice.

  • Congregating in the lobby or parking lot is not permitted.

  • No Standing by boards when viewing

  • No pregame/practice warmups allowed in any part of the building. Teams must stay in dressing rooms until ice is ready.
